JOBS HANDLED BY VISUALLY CHALLENGED EMPLOYEES IN BANKS

In Branches
1.       Grahak Mitra
•       Enquiring the needs of the customers
•       Guiding them as to where and how they can avail the service
•       Handing them over required vouchers
•       Providing information about service charges
•       Marketing of bank products, cross selling
•       Educating customers about alternative channels of banking and giving
them hands on training, if required

2.       Mobile banking/SMS banking
•       Informing customers about the mobile banking service offered by the
bank.  A poster about the same can be pasted at the place where the
employee is sitting.
•       Explaining to customers about the benefits of mobile banking
•       Transfering the application by using blue tooth dongul
•       A print out can be prepared containing the SMSs which have to be
sent in order to complete the process

3.      Non-financial transactions
•       Printing statements of loan accounts and deposit accounts which can
be handed over to customers
•       Calculating EMI for the amount of loan required by the customer
•       Provide information about the status of cheques presented for collection
•       Sending e-mails to existing and new customers about new products of bank
•       General office work like typing letters, maintaining database in
excel sheets, etc.

In credit processing cells like RACPC, SMECC
1.      Informaition dissemination
•       Providing information to branches and customers about the status of
loan proposals
•       Providing information to customers about the balance of their loan
accounts they can withdraw and stages at which they can do the same

2.      Loan Recovery
•       Checking on the intranet the NPAs of branches in the purview of the
credit processing cell
•       Cross checking the same by seeing the balances of respective
customers’ loan accounts
•       Informing customers about the status of their default and
consequences of continuation of the same
•       Typing letters to be sent to defaulters by using MS office tools
like mail merge
•       Sending e-mails to defaulters
•       Generating periodical reports to assist the officers on the field

At the Administrative offices
1.      Secretaries to middle and top level managers
•       Typing letters on the dictation by the manager
•       Receiving phone calls and connecting to the manager by prioritizing them
•       Follow up with branches about the works assigned by the zonal
managers to branches
•       Generation of periodical reports thereby assisting managers
•       Reading letters by scanning them and presenting before managers
according to priority
•       Addressing customer complaints about branches after taking guidance
from managers

2.      General administration work
•       Typing letters
•       Working with databases using MS excel
•       Informing branches about any reconciliation work to be done at their
end over phone and following it up

The list above is illustrative and not exhaustive.  With more and more
of usage of technology in banks, tasks that can be handled by visually
challenged people are increasing.  And once an employee is assigned a
particular task, he can explore more jobs that he can do depending
upon his skills and the nature of his work place.

Assistive technology required for carrying on the above mentioned tasks

1.       A computer
2.      Screen reading software like Jaws which is economical if purchased
at the central level rather than individually by branches
3.      Scanner (useful for scanning and reading physical documents)
4.      OCR software like “Open Book, Abby fine reader”which enables
visually challenged people to scan physical documents and read them on
the computer.
