In my talks with George Abraham CEO of Score foundation, this idea of having
a tele series, that would help create more awareness on people with visual
disability, had been lingering in his mind for quite some time. A mission
that seemed impossible, on hisĀ  back burner, that eventually might have been
shelfed just as an idea finally comes to life! Indeed a surprise to have
read about this tele series in leading newspapers of the country and see the
promo on youtube (link included in blog).

Very proud of George, his determination, focus and enthusiasm has always
inspired me in ways I cannot express in words. Simply that he amazes me.
Friends I share with you the article on this new tele series which is
featured on the source link with IBN hope you are equally excited and
motivated to watch it when it is aired on Doordarshan.

Article:

New Delhi: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has associated with a TV series
'Nazar Ya Nazariya', which will feature real life stories of visually
challenged achievers in the country. He believes stereotypes related to
disabilities need to be broken.

The actor will introduce and sign off each episode of the show, which will
otherwise be hosted by Harsh Chhaya.

Launched by Score Foundation, an NGO which works towards empowering the
visually challenged, the 13-part series, which will be aired on Doordarshan,
is aimed at questioning common perceptions and focusing on the immense
possibilities of life with blindness.

"When I did 'Sparsh' in the early 1980s, I had the opportunity of
interacting with several visually impaired individuals. I realised that the
problem is not with the Nazar it is with the Nazariya," Naseeruddin said in
a statement.

"What is important here is that people like you and me need to break away
from the societal stereotypes and commonly held perceptions about disability
and success or happiness.

"This is the main message that we are trying to drive through this
television series and we hope that we are able to achieve this goal by
reaching out to more and more people of this country," he added.

The TV series is funded by Sightsavers International, an international
charity organisation, Tech Mahindra Foundation and Union Bank of India.

The themes showcased on the show will range from education, employment,
business, art and culture to marriage and relationships.

'Nazar Ya Nazariya' will go on air on September 21.

Comments:

Excellent win win situation. A new career move for Naseeruddin and a great
awareness campaign for the visually impaired community. Initially I was
under the impression that Aamir Khan would host the show, spinning off his
talk show tele series Satyamev Jayate, where in one of his episodes, aptly
titled "Persons with Disabilities - We can fly!", he did feature prominent
members that represented the visually impaired community.

It is overwhelming to have the support of all the members involved in making
this tele series a reality including the sponsors and having Naseeruddin as
the host is icing on the cake. I think we all should look forward to
catching this series, it's extremely educating, motivating, inspiring and
breath taking!
