The visually challenged all over Kerala are thrilled to see that two of their friends Ranjith MS and Nowfel P from Maharajas College Eranamkulam have represented India in the world cup football for the visually challenged. The team reached up to the semifinal and lost to Iran. "As the chief minister and the government have promised Government job for Maneesh who played for India in the twenty twenty worldcup, so shall they do for Ranjith and Nowfel who have brought laurels to Kerala by being a part of the Indian team at Bankok' said A.P. Abdullakkutty M.L.A. and KJ Vargees vise president KFB on the occasion of felicitating them at Kannur on the second of October. "One team consists of five players, four players and one partially sighted golly. The player's eyes are plastered and all of them are fully sightless in the ground. The players shall make the sound y y y y if they are moving with out balls. Other wise it will be a foul." Says Ranjith MS. Till now we were only aware of Cricket for the visually challenged. Now it is told that Football is also equally interesting and enjoyable to the visually challenged. "The ball is very costly, an original ball costs 100 Dollars RS 6000 in India. But cheap balls are also available. There are small iron balls attached to plastic surface in different parts of the ball, and it jingles when it is moved. So the person who is holding the ball is exempted from making the y sound. The structure and size of the ball is similar to that of a normal football" Says Nowfel P. Since india has performed well in the worldcup, let us hope that at least we are able to achieve a considerable recognition in the worldcup football of the visually challenged, which we are not likely to achieve in the normal field. "The ball control and spatial orientation of Iranianand Russian players are amazing and wonderful" Says Ranjith MS. It is strange that this achievement went unnoticed even among the visually challenged so far. However now the visually challenged community is thinking about giving these players maximum recognition and support. Let us hope that this development of Football will add to the process of integration and sensitisation through sports that is already being done through Chess and Cricket.
