Well in order to have maximam battery backup you can tweak the processor frequency to lower GHZ, you can decrease the brightness or as we use screen reader to use the laptop you can even sswitch off the display. Turn off Bluetooth and wireless lan, turn on powersaving mode from windows mobility center, defrag your hard disc so that it does not spin much when accessing data, use high contrast black theme, turn off back liting of the keyboard keep volume on 50 % and don't use DVD rom unnessessarly when on battery.
