To service standards like receiving card etc. i think no difference. But for msg notifications, please check if SBI has it and if any separation activation is required.
On the salary versus saving account front, Has SBI denied you salary account? They can't do that. Even ICICI had first opened usual savings account and then when my firm sensitized them they opended my salary account with a brand new separate account code for VI.
