Recently I faced the same problem on windows 7 with both nero 7 and 8. It
burned dvd, but not cd, not even using the windows burning utility. I was
able to burn cd only after removing nero. I don't know why it so happened. I
would also like the list to discuss it.

dear folks,
i am using del core2 do laptop and also a desktop. i tried on both of
my systems but could not burn dvds and cds. i am sure that they have
cd dvd writer inside them. i also in the past burnt successfully a dvd
from my desktop but now i have tried more than five dvds and cds and
they are not burning. i used nero, i used direct windows burn utility,
i used ultra iso but to no avail. someone told me that in some cases
dvds are also in working order but they are not compatible with the
system OS. i also changed OS on my desktop but this also proved
useless. i have also tried both recordable and re-writable disks.
please give me suggestions or solutions to this problem i am very much
annoyed with this issue. does we have to update the driver or
something of our built in cd dvd writers? i only install one or two
drivers after fresh installation of window. now it is the only
possibility otherwise i could not conceive any problematic factor.
