Concerned Action (CAN) cordially invites you to The 5th Ali Baquer Memorial Lecture To be delivered by Mr. George Abraham, CEO, Score Foundation on “Portrayal of Disability in Cinema” on Thursday, 12th December, 2013 from 10.30 am to 12.00m Noon At Apeejay Institute of Mass Communicaiton, Apeejay Campus, Institutional Area, Sector - 8, Dwarka, New Delhi – 110077. Prof. Ashok Ogra, Director, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication shall chair the lecture. Briefs Mr. George Abraham is a well known activist of the disability sector who has been working on the issues concerning the visually impaired. He setup the World Blind Cricket Council in 1996 and was its Founding President and also launched the first ever World Cup of cricket for the Blind in 1998. He has also worked on education and co-authored a book on Inclusive Education. Mr. Abraham has been the recipient of several honours which includes his election as an Ashoka Fellow in 2001, Limca Book of Records People of the year 2007 and been awarded the Sanskriti Award in 1994. He also ran with the Olympic Torch at Atlanta in 1996 and was featured on Discovery Channel’s series “Discovery People”, the “Aviva Forward Thinkers” campaign and on Paul Murten’s travel show “Paul Murten in India”. His other contributions to the disability sector include the Eyeway Project which was envisioned as a single stop knowledge resource on “Life with Blindness” and establishment of the Low Vision Centre at the Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital in 2000. Abraham has also been a member of the Steering Committee of the Planning Commission (of the 11th/12th) 5 year plans. Prof. Ashok Ogra has over 35 years of experience in media and education industry. Having begun in his career in the newspaper ‘The Tribune’ he went on to become the Director at ‘Doordarshan’. Ogra also set up the Discovery Channel & Animal Planet where he worked as Regional Director (South Asia). Having taught at the reputed ‘Film Institute’, Pune he is currently the Director of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication since its inception from 2003. He remains a regular contributor of articles to various newspapers and magazines. Prof. Ogra has been member of various film juries and a regular invitee at various national and international forums including Cannes.
