Students wishing to spend more time reading and researching in

own ease. Acting on a long-standing demand of students, the central
library at JNU will now be operational round the clock.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sudhir K Sopory, made the announcement while
inaugurating the newly renovated reading hall at the central library.
The reading hall facility will, henceforth, be available round the
clock from February 3.

The newly renovated reading hall has a seating capacity of 128
students. "The library is one of those places where students come,
interact and collaborate with one another.

The extension of library hours will benefit students access more
information and will promote the use of the library's vast
collection," R C Gaur, chief librarian, said.

The central library has a diverse collection of more than five lakh
volumes and subscribes to more than 50 online databases. Besides, it
has a rich collection of more than 1 lakh e-books, spanning different
disciplines.

"It is a great move. Making the library accessible round the clock
makes things that much more easier for the students. I look forward to
making the most of this new convenience," Arpita Paul, a student at
the university, said.

The entry to the library reading hall during all hours of opening
shall be by an access control system. Registered students wanting to
use the facility would be required to bring their ID-cards to ensure
that the facility is used by JNU students only.
