Hi All,
Long Email. Please be warned Dating and relationship is something that I haven't given much thought about. To me, Dating and sustaining the relationship is a beautiful thing. But the idea of using a person's disability (blindness in this case) as a means to influence a person's decision power, is it right and ethical? There is a park which is a 5-minute walk from my home. I go here for a morning exercise and walk every day and sometime for an evening walk if I feel like it. The incident which I'm narrating occurred within the past few weeks there. I had an acquaintance who voluntarily offered to walk with me on a regular basis. We walked and chatted along and spoke on various subjects - fitness, health, work, men, women, politics and all that usual stuff and soon we became friends. This friend of mine had an issue for which he required my assistance. He had been meeting up a girl for some months and their friendship was great. He later proposed her but she refused. So he asked me to say a few "nice things" to her and influence her to accept him, which I immediately refused. >From what he tells me, he has "plenty of feelings" for her and at this point he thinks "life is meaningless without her", and he is of the opinion that a blind person like me can "motivate her" and "get her to accept" him. I just told him that forget and forgive her and move on, this is not something for me to intervene between him and her. Let's hope he doesn't take any drastic steps, I'm little concerned.
