One of the precautions I take is to sign twice on the cheque and put my
mobile number at the back.
Sometimes the bank has called me to confirm the payment.

The problem is when your signature gets forged, how is the bank going to
know when it is genuine and when fake.

If the bank clears a cheque when it is forged, the bank has to
takeresponsibility for that transaction. Therefore, when the signature does
not match they have to return the cheque with a remark of signature
mismatch.

Harish.
