Subject: Please send in comments: The Nirbhaya Fund

Hello everyone:

Yahoo News has done an expose of the inactivity in the Nirbhaya Fund proposal
set up by the Government:

http://in.news.yahoo.com/what-they-are-planning-to-do-with-the-rs-1-000-crore-nirbhaya-fund-050843333.html

In response to this, an appeal from the Ministry of Finance: Suggestions and
proposals for the Nirbhaya fund from all concerned citizens, NGOs and civil
rights groups are welcome and can be emailed to the Joint Secretary, Budget,
Ministry of Finance, Rajat Bhargava ([email protected]).

Many of the suggestions we made as part of the Report on the Justice Verma
Recommendations were based on accessibility concerns. I feel that any specific
requirements which would require expenses should be flagged to be looked into
here. This could include ISL and AAC interpreters in Police Stations and
Hospitals, Braille and other forms of accessible copies of guidelines for
victims, to name a few.

Please send in your recommendations. There is no time limit specified but I
think if you can give in your suggestions by Saturday evening that would be
very useful. I realize that the elections are about to happen but it makes
sense to put our recommendations on record and then take it up again with the
new Government that forms.

Best, and looking forward to hearing from you all with suggestions!

Amba.
