KOLKATA: At 3.30 pm, minister of state for railways Adhir
Chowdhury<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Adhir-Chowdhury>
announced
the construction of elevators at Metro stations for the aged and physically
challenged. Barely 30 minutes later, a man in charge of his security
violently shoved a blind man at Howrah
station<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Howrah-station> to
clear the way for the minister.

Luckily for Mahesh Pal of Burdwan, he was steadied by a helping hand. The
guard didn't even offer his apologies when challenged by environment
activist Subhas Datta<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Subhas-Datta>.
Datta lodged a complaint against him with the GRP.

"We were returning from Santiniketan on Tuesday evening. The rake of our
train was to be used for the Coalfield Express and there was huge rush on
the platform when we reached Howrah. My vehicle was parked on the cabway.
When we made our way towards it, I saw a visually-impaired person trying to
make his way through the crowd of passengers. He was having trouble and I
asked him where he was headed. He said that he wanted to get to Platform 6.
I started leading him towards that platform when things turned chaotic.
Security personnel started pushing people away from the cabway. Even my
wife was pushed. I lost my temper when the plainclothes man pushed Pal. He
almost fell on the platform. When I shouted at the plainclothes personnel,
he said that the minister was coming and everybody should stay away," Datta
said.

Datta spotted Chowdhury's car soon after this. He was on his way by a
special train to Katwa for an Eastern Railway programme. Datta was fuming
at this high-handedness by the security man. After guiding Pal to the
Mayurakshi Fast Passenger, he went to the platform inspector's chamber to
lodge a complaint. There, he was told to go to the GRP.

"I lodged a complaint (GD No. 303) and gave a description of the man who
pushed Pal. Why should security personnel behave in this manner with
citizens whenever a VIP is passing? I had expected an apology from him
after he realized that the man he pushed is visually-impaired.

Even the minister should look into the matter," Datta added.
