This Sunday, booth-level officers will be available at all the 11,763 polling stations across 2,534 locations between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. so that those keen on voting can check if their names are included in the rolls and even submit the required documents to get their names added to the list.
Though 1,28,424 electors have been added to the electoral rolls since the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said on Wednesday that steps have been taken to ensure that more voters are included. "Names can be added to the electoral rolls till March 12 by submitting Form-6. For the first time on Sunday, in all of Delhi's polling stations, a special provision has been made where booth-level officers will be available so voters can check if they are on the electoral rolls. The officers will also receive Form 6 which will add voters to the list," he said. Voter card alone is no guarantee: EC Mr. Dev said voters must make sure their names are on the electoral rolls. "The Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is not a guarantee that you can vote. Your name should be on the electoral roll," he said, adding that voters can confirm enrolment by sending an SMS: EPICvoter id card no. to 9211728082. As per the electoral rolls published by January-end, 1,20,60,493 voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections for seven Parliamentary constituencies in Delhi and among them are 66,84,476 male voters, 53,75,383 female voters and 638 in the others category. As many as 1,10,96,854 voters were enrolled during the 2009 general election. Mr. Dev said the notification for the election will be issued on March 15, which will also be the first day of nominations, and March 22 will be the last date for filing nominations. While scrutiny of nominations will be carried out on March 24, withdrawal of nominations will be on March 26. "We are going to polls with 100 per cent Photo Electoral Rolls (PER) and 100 per cent Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) as against the 2009 Parliamentary elections when our EPIC percentage was 86.4 and the PER was 79.8 per cent," he said. -- Avinash Shahi M.Phil Research Scholar Centre for The Study of Law and Governance Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi India Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
