Voters with disability can register online Manash Pratim Gohain,TNN | Mar 27, 2014, 04.44 AM IST NEW DELHI: The office of the chief electoral officer is working overtime to protect the rights of voters with disabilities. After the lapses revealed by replies to RTI queries, its website launched a new facility for registration of disabled voters, on Monday. This was done in consultation with NGOs, the ministry of social justice and empowerment MSJE, chief commissioner for persons with disabilities. According to officials, the CEO office was using the inputs to make a video module for sensitizing the polling staff. Action for Ability Development and Inclusion (AADI), which is working with the office, is shooting a film simulating the polling day and facilities for wheelchair users as well as blind and deaf people. They are also making a pictorial booklet to help the presiding officers. On Tuesday, Dr Satendra Singh, a doctor with disability and speaker at many disability conferences, conducted a workshop along with the additional CEO, to sensitize the nodal officers of all the seven parliamentary constituencies and their master trainers. He also had an interactive session on disability etiquette, basic things to follow before the election, during the election, inside the polling booth and on the premises.
