Hi, Few attempts are going on for Kannada OCR, important being a kannada and Tamil print to braille tool from IISC Bangalore. I visited there sometimes back, and testing their OCR and giving feedback. Though the accuracy is not so great, usable with good printed text. They are still working on this. If u want more details, u can contact me off the list. I have scanned couple of books using that. My father is taking care of editing for me. A professor in Mysore also working for Kannada OCR.
