I have not read any reports of screen reader use leading to hearing issues.
Use speakers. If not, then go with Senheiser. They are ruggid have 3.5 MM
audio jacks and are accessible. For eexample, they mark the left headphone
with the letter "l" which you can feel.

They may be beyond your existing budget but please save for them. They are
worth the investment because they have a flat audio response so no
distortion when it comes to use with a speech synthesizer.
