Press NVD + 3 to toggle on and off the speaking of typed words. I am using the laptop keyboard layout in NVDA 2014.2 so the shortcut for you might differ. Alternatively, in the NVDA menu > Preferences submenu > Keyboard Settings you will find a check box to do the same.
