Dear friends,
As most of you know, our E-group, VIB India was formed way back in
2009. This group was formed out of starvation of productivity,
frustration due to being bogged down, high stress high levels due to
being idle, humiliation at work place, more and more of such
sufferings. The group was formed with an intention to bring people
with similar sufferings on to one platform so that experiences get
shared and, hopefully, solutions would emerge.
The result?
Though VIB India had a slow start, with more and more new recruitsin
banks, people started joining the group. As you know, the group has
more than 400 members at the moment. Many problems were reported,
doubts got clarified, experiences were shared, tutorials and manuals
were exchanged, tips were learnt, circulars and other legal provisions
were made aware of, etc. We can proudly say, VIB India is a
successful E-group!
Then, why the association, VIBEWA now?
Despite the success of VIB India, perhaps the only thing that VIB
India could achieve was information sharing. Isn't that enough? Let
us see:
1. Could we do something to provide screen reading software to
talented youngsters in any bank?
2. Could we stop transfer of blind people hundreds of KMs away from
their domicile places?
3. Could we make any bank or IBA identify new jobs for visually
challenged?
4. Could we fight against discrimination in the form of
operational/line assignments, rural postings, etc. which still remain
a hurdle in promotions for blind employees?
5. Could we achieve any reservation in promotions for PWD in banks?
6. Could we increase the meager Rs. 400 conveyance allowance at least
by 1 rupee?
the answer to all the above questions, or in fact, the above problems,
is a helpless no! Only a handful of employees, in a very few banks,
either due to exceptional skills or sheer luck, or may be bit of both,
were able to make some positive strides in their career. With a
hearty congratulations to such people, a question arises, is it enough
if few people prove successful as visually challenged bankers?
As they say, the standard of living of India can not be assessed on
the basis of living style of few Ambanis, Tatas, Birlas, Mitals, etc.
Its the living conditions of slums of Mumbai, dry villages of Madhya
Pradesh, middle class of towns, indebted farmers of villages, etc.
that determine how India is flourishing! So, unless an average blind
employee in a weak public sector bank has a work place with
productivity and dignity, we are not going to be satisfied! Don't you
think so?
Now, what can we do?
Any movement is not judged just by a press release, a representation,
a case fought in court of law, etc. But it is judged by the number of
people that stand together for the cause and move forward. The best
example for this is how an agitation could stop a faulty RPD Bill
being passed in the parliament. So, its you, in fact we that matter
in this movement. Also, for any thing do be done, funds are very much
an essential factor that support the cause. Be it a press conference,
RTI applications, office to be run, traveling expenditure to meet
officials from government/banks, web site to be maintained, etc.,
money is very much required for everything. And I think its the
founders of VIBEWA that have been pumping the required funds to give
the divine birth to the association. Now, nurturing this child into
an able body is the responsibility of all of us!
How much it takes from us?
Hardly ten minutes to fill the application form. And Rs. 1,200 for
officers and Rs. 600 for other staff annually. Since it would be
improper to draw conclusions about financial commitments of others,
I'm leaving you to decide whether we are not in a position to afford
50/100 rupees per month for such great cause, especially when we are
the ultimate beneficiaries of the efforts.
I have decided. I have decided to be a part of this movement,, a
participant in this program, a soldier in this fight, a member of this
association. I will pay the required fees and become a member today.
If you concur with my ideology, please come together. As they say, if
we want to travel longer, we should march together!
Is it enough?
May be not. Every one of us should strive to spread awareness of this
association, encourage our friends to join us, thereby strengthening
it further.
I,, personally, as well as the co-moderator of VIB India and active
volunteer of VIBEWA, plead each one of you to register with the
association. For more info, please visit
