Dear Friends
We are delighted to invite you for Antarchakshu 2014, our annual sensitisation
and awareness event. The theme this year is mainstreaming education for blind
and low-vision persons (from KG to PG).
Participants will get an opportunity to play with numbers, read maps with their
fingers, conduct experiments in a laboratory and much more, the way the blind
do.I look forward to seeing you and your colleagues on September 12 / 13, as
per your convenience.
Attached to this email are 2 separate invites. We would also appreciate if you
could circulate them widely among your friends / colleagues / business
partners, especially those connected with education.
The following points are of importance.1. We need approximately an hour of the
participants' time.2. This 1 hour can be any time between 11 am and 7 pm on
either 12th or 13th September (Friday and Saturday).3. We would appreciate if
schools could nominate as many teachers as possible, as also send their
principals, administrators and management committee members.4. The interaction
with the teachers can be in English, Hindi or Marathi.5. A certificate of
participation will be provided to teachers / school representatives. The
schools that send more than 5 representatives would also be eligible to a
recognition and participation certificate.6. It would be ideal if participants
could pre-register, mentioning their name, school and approximate time
preference. This can be done by calling:a: Krishna: 22623298, 22626329b.
Calveena: 90040398497. There is no participation fee.
My contact details are mentioned in the signature line.
A detailed note on Antarchakshu is appended at the bottom of this
communication.Would appreciate if you could widely circulate it so that we can
help together build better opportunities for blind and low-vision students.
Best Regards,
Dr. Sam Taraporevala

Antarchakshu 2014 (inclusive Education from KG to PG)
The Right to Education Act (RTE), 2010 has taken a significant step forward in
recognising the right to education for all in India. This includes students
with disabilities. Education philosophies the world over have transitioned from
‘special’ to ‘inclusive’, under which children with disabilities study in the
same class as other children. It has been observed that this not only adds
value to their learning but significantly uplifts the learning of their
non-disabled classmates and friends. However, because of lack of information
and awareness, schools tend to remain apprehensive about being able to deliver
on inclusive education opportunities for students with disabilities.
The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC)
(www.xrcvc.org), a department of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, is committed to
the philosophy of an equal and enriching educational experience for all. Our
experience with being able to include students with disabilities in our regular
classrooms has been tried and tested, and refined over the years. The XRCVC’s
experience over the past 10 years has made us realise the need for reaching out
to other educational institutes in the city.
The XRCVC holds an annual awareness event “Antarchakshu - The Eye WithinTM”
that aims to spread awareness on the lives of persons with blindness and low
vision to better equip its participants to understand this physical condition
and take back to their daily life, insights into their world. This year,
Antarchakshu focuses exclusively on “Inclusive Education”. We write to invite
you to partner with us on this journey. Antarchakshu is scheduled for September
12th and 13th and we would like to invite teachers and management members of
your school to participate in the event.
Participants need to spend only 45 - 60 minutes at the event during either of
these days, anytime between 11 a.m.and 7 p.m. We can pre-book a slot of the day
for your institution if you can register with us for the same in advance. The
event would prove invaluable for schools that currently do not have any
visually challenged students in their classes, as it would better prepare them
for future requests. It would also prove invaluable to schools which already
have students with blindness and low vision, and would like to know more about
better ways of promoting the teaching-learning process. The XRCVC will be
offering a certificate of participation to teachers and a certificate of
recognition to schools sending 10 or more staff as participants. Please feel
free to contact us in case of any query.
You can e-mail your confirmations to [email protected], or call Mr. Krishna on
022-22623298/22626329 or Ms. Calveena on 9004039849 to register and pre-book
your slot.
We look forward to hearing from you.
