I wonder if arm bands will keep an adult afloat? I used a big, almost 1/ and
a half foot diameter light blow up ball to hold on and then learnt the leg
strokes in a breast stroak, and there after practiced the arm strokes and I
swam my first mile on the ninth day from beginning learning. You should
breath in with your mouth and exhale breath out from your nose to keep from
water getting into your lungs via nose.

Subject: Re: [AI] Help Requested on Learning Swimming

Hi Rahul,

1. Crab walk the pool to learn its contours.
2. Your stroke should be even so that you do not deviate from your intended
course.
3. Your native sense of direction will help when swimming. A pool is much
like a
room except that it is filled with water.
4. Do not panic if you get water in your ears. This may reduce the amount of
sound you hear but in a pool, assuming you are in the shallows, you can
stand up
and clear your ears by tilting your head in the direction of the ear you
want to
clear. If you stand and do not feel the bottom, stroke towards the closest
wall
and once you reach it, hold on and clear your ears.
5. You will need to learn to breathe like everyone else.
6. If possible, meet the instructor directly, get into the water and
experiment.
7. Start by using arm bands to stay afloat. Your instructor will advise you
on
this. All learners start with these devices.

Pranav
