The Cradle cordially invites you to the Disability Summit as per following
details:
Date: Wednesday, 3rd December 2014
Time: 10:30 AM - 02:00 PM
Venue: Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi
The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities is
celebrated all over the world annually on 3rd December as special day to
draw attention to the issues related to persons with disabilities. The
policy makers and people with disabilities interact to highlight the
programmes and policies of Govt to create a society where disables can enjoy
their life with health, respect, dignity and social inclusion. It has also
been emphasized by UN that it is not only the institutional changes, but the
full participation of the persons with disability, community and the Non
Governmental Organizations (NGO) is essential for achieving the desired
results.
Since time immemorial, disability has been perceived as a divine curse on
individuals. Persons with disabilities are subjected to all forms of
discrimination, denial and deprivation of rights. They face physical,
social, economic and attitudinal barriers. Being poorest among poor, they
are voiceless, marginalized and isolated, and lack access to education,
employment, healthcare and legal support systems. They live in a state of
disempowerment and disarticulation. Nevertheless, it has been realized that
it is not merely a medical problem and the solution lies in empowerment and
removal of social and structural barriers.
Around one billion people of the world live with some form of disability!
Being a developing country, India is an abode of more than 180 million
disable persons, 33% of them sleep hungry and have higher rate of mortality.
A little concern can change million lives forever…
The Cradle, an associate NGO of WHO SEARO (South East Asia Region Office),
endeavours to bring awareness, empowerment, inclusion and dignity among
persons with disabilities. On the occasion of United Nation’s International
Day of Persons with Disabilities, The Cradle is organising a Disability
