After receiving a University of Excellence Grant from the central government, Delhi University (DU) will be sending young teachers for a year-long Masters degree programme in a range of subjects. http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/delhi-university-to-send-teachers-abroad-for-masters-programmes/ "The initiative is designed to bring young faculty of colleges face to face with some of the international scholars on diverse disciplines," an official statement from the university administration said.
The universities where these programmes will be offered include University of Nottingham, University of Edinburgh, University of British Columbia, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow and King's College London. The university further added that only those up to the age of 35 years will be sponsored by the university for Masters courses in around 17 different disciplines. Elaborating on the programme, DU's Dean of International Relations Anand Prakash said, "The faculty preferably up to the age of 35 years will be sponsored by DU to do a Masters in areas where we need to strengthen our teaching and learning. The initiative is aimed at bringing our teachers at par with international scholars in diverse disciplines." Even as the university will sponsor the course, teachers will also be paid a year's salary by their respective departments. "The expenditure by the varsity on each of the candidates will sum up to around Rs 15 lakh. We have tied up with certain universities where the teachers will be sent," he said.
