JNU Visually Challenged Forum expresses its full solidarity with the struggle waged by blind people in the city of Lahore for getting their rightful dues in Pakistan. We strongly condemn the brutal lathi charge whielded by the Lahore police on blind protesters on 3 December 2014 (International Disability Day). On that Day, Approximately 150 peaceful protesters were marching towards the Official resident of Punjab Minister Shahbaz Sharif to submit their long-pending demand for ending ad-hocism and fulfillment of 2 per cent employment quota mandated by the law. But Lahore Police stopped them midway and batoned indiscriminately. As a result, several blind protesters got severely injured. See this video: (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2bn2d5_police-baton-charge-blind-protesters-in-lahore_news). Such ruthless supression of democratic protest on the people by elected governments anywhere in the world is highly contemptuous and invite strongest condemnation. We hope Pakistan's Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif will take strong note of the incident and will instruct Punjab CM to take stringent action against the Police officers. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured protesters in our neighboring nation.
