The question: to whom such memberships are useful more? to the blind or the particular political party? is sometimes misleading.
May be for now, political party could benefit more, but such a public event would make these parties more accountable. At least we can ask them, you said that by inducting more persons with disabilities you would be able to serve them better. So now show us the results. On the other hand, if we do not participate, they can say when we wanted to involve you, you dragged your feet. So in the end both parties would benefit by the involvement, and we will have to be smarter in making sure that our interests are served. So it is a mutual benefit. People should also connect with other political parties to bring in the change. Subject: Re: [AI] Visually impaired people take oath as BJP members in New Delhi At the same time,, I think, we need to ask the crucial question: to whom such memberships are useful more? to the blind or the particular political party? I don't deny the importance of political engagement, but such widely-advertised membership-drives of our electoral parties demand a critical view in terms of whom do they benefit, for what purpose such moves are taken up and the real place of the disabled and our concerns within the realm of these parties' electoral calculation and political games. For instance, how far these newly joint visually impaired members of BJP will be able to lobby for a better RPD bill?
