Hi, it is not possible to read Kannada PDF unless you convert the text of the pdf file to Kannada Unicode. Although there are some converters exist, there is no universal one.
Perhaps you are getting junk charactors while reading Kannada PDF because of the above-stated reason; hence you are not able to understand it through eSpeak. If you can give me more details about the Kannada PDF file which you possess, (such as font/encoding, source, whether it contains just immage or image and text both Ect) I will surely try to help you. Apart from eSpeak, there is another TTS is being developed for Kannada at IISc, and its not yet usable in day-today work. expected to be usable shortly. HTH.
