ANNOUNCEMENT:- Contempt Petition filed for the interest of all the person with disabilities. A Contempt Petition being Conmt. Pet. (C) No.499/2014 filed by Shri S.K. Rungta General Secretary National Federation of the Blind complaining of disobedience of the judgment of Hon'ble Apex court dt. 8.10.13 in the matter of Union of India Vs. National Federation of the Blind by which the Apex Court directed the Govt. of India and State Govts. to compute the vacancies against 3% reservation for persons with disabilities against the total number of vacancies in the cadre strength in an establishment and fill up the same within three months of the date of the said order as well as modify/ amend the instructions relating to reservation for persons with disabilities providing for such manner of computation, came up for hearing before the Bench of Apex Court comprising of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ranjan Gogoi & Hon'ble Mr. Justice N.V. Ramana on 24.3.15. The Hon'ble Bench took serious note of the fact that Union of India has admitted a total number of computed backlog vacancies in 70 departments of Govt. of India and PSUs numbering 12,786 out of which 3690 backlog reserved vacancies for VH, 4154 for HH & 4870 for OH but no effective steps have been taken to fill up the same in a time bound manner. In view of the said default, the court has directed the Govt. of India to file an affidavit stating that number of the said backlog vacancies filled up or steps taken to fill them up and the time frame in which the same will be filled up. The court has also directed the Govt. to state on affidavit the details of the Special recruitment made, if any, to fill the said huge backlog. The court has also made it clear that the court will consider constituting a committee on the next date of hearing to monitor the progress made to fill up the admitted backlog vacancies in a time bound manner.
