Sreenivasa Murthy Nearly 100 visually-impaired music graduates staged a protest at Freedom Park here demanding jobs as music teachers in government primary and high schools in the State.
Graduates from the Akhila Karnataka Panchakshari Gavai Andha Kalavidara Sangha from Gadag placed their demands before Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, and urged him to provide them teaching jobs under ‘special category’ in government schools. Five members of the sangha, led by Basavarj C. Kallur, submitted a memorandum to the government. “The Chief Minister has promised us that the matter will be discussed during the ongoing legislature session, and a decision will be taken soon for filling up the ‘special category’ posts for music teachers,” said Chandraiah Hiremath, member of the sangha. The sangha members met Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar, and were told to approach the Department of Kannada and Culture. “Where are we to go? We are nearly 2,000 graduates, who have passed out of the institute in the last four years and are waiting for jobs,” rued Mr. Hiremath. He said the government had promised help in December 2014 at the Belagavi session, but nothing had materialised. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
