The safest (via something changing later) and easiest
way to do this is via VBA code.

Most likely this will be done upon record creation and
its a simple query as you prep to populate the rest of
the data --- if you are doing "automatic" record
creation because you have a fields tied directly to
the database (IMHO always a bad idea -- all things
considered) then you'll have to do this when the user
triggers the creation of a new record.

If this was SQL and even MY SQL you might have been
able to use a trigger but I pretty sure Access does
not have triggers.
