AFAIK, no RFC yet. XTND XMIT is a non-standard extended POP3
command. Not all POP3 server support this command. My ISP using
Mercury (http://www.pegasus.usa.net/) for it's POP3 server, which
has XTND XMIT.
I'm still retrieving the article suggested by Uzi, so I don't know
yet why it's not recommended. But IMHO, XTND XMIT will help stamp
out spam for good, because you should login first to the POP3 server
each time you want to send a message. Relaying is off course won't
be possible with this method.
> I particularly would like to know how authentication is performed

As I said, this only usable if you have a fixed IP address. If each
ISP members has it's own IP, no further authentication is required
for SMTP, because it's already done each time you login to your ISP
(either by using PAP, CHAP, or RADIUS authentication). However,
there's only few ISPs which actually has a fixed IP for each of their
members. Most ISPs using dinamically assigned IP nowadays. CMIIW.
As my ISP also using dynamic IP, I have no personal XP on this. But
at least one of our list member always fetching his emails with SMTP,
just visit the URL in my sig below, and search for "smtp" (eGroups'
mailbox search using method=get, so you won't need getweb, any web
to mail gateways will do).

Hi!
I've been trying some search string from the 'ready to go' search
engines in the getit4u document. The problem is that it doesn't work
with [EMAIL PROTECTED]: it send me some error message back. I think the Url
it recieve get truncated, even when I use a \ to cut the URL.
Which server do you use to search usually? I know [EMAIL PROTECTED]
works, but it's terribly, terribly slow:)
The string I use is: http://www.altavista.digital.com/cgi-\
bin/query?pg=q&what=web&fmt=.&q=atari+ftp
Thanks for your help

You can get a listing of all the archie servers at Gerald Boyd's Web Site
at http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236
To obtain detailed help for using Archie:
To: your favorite archie server
Subject: help
Or, you can just send a message to your favorite archie server
and put the following in the body:
find <file>

Neither has E-mail subscriptions. You can get the NY Times web page
via an Agora, Getweb or other server at: http://forums.nytimes.com/
You can also grab the free subscription page via Getweb or www4mail

This is a little out of date. In fact, begining in Jan 1999, I'll
be going over all of these search engines by E-mail FAQS. I need to
do some major upgrading because of all the changes. I have been lax
because so many of the users on this list have gone to using Getweb
and ww4mail servers that I just didn' think anyone much used my
older information anymore.
Try this:
http://www.altavista.digital.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&what=web&kl=XX\
&q=atari+ftp
or this
http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&kl=XX&q=atari+ftp&search

Thanks in advance.

Quickie document for you via me...
Boolean from George Boole the English mathematician mid 19th century.
Boolean logic is composed of AND, OR, and NOT as the primary
operators.
AND OR NOT
false AND false = false false OR false = false NOT false =
true
false AND true = false false OR true = true NOT true =
false
true AND false = false true OR false = true
true AND true = true true OR true = true
AND is true if both inputs are true, OR is true if any input is
true, and NOT is an inverter; the output is always the opposite.
To involve more than one boolean comparison, separate terms with
parentheses.
(cats AND dogs) OR (pigs OR cows) NOT reptile
The above would be true if we found cats and dogs and no reptiles.
It would also be true if we found pigs and no reptiles.
And it would also be true if we found cows and no reptiles.
Hence, my favorite statement that I use in all my computer classes:
Q: Do you want coffee or tea?
A: true
coffee OR tea is a boolean expression that can only be answered as
true or false. You really cannot answer it with a beverage choice (:>)

The only way to renew your quota is to wait one week.
