Yep, same problem here 3 or 4 times this year. Its not mailbox size
related as mine allegedly can receive up to 50MB.

I faced the same problem that Esmail did and this almost discouraged me =
from downloading zipped files via email. Then I got help from a nice guy =
at WinZip, who told me to use the word 'mime' in my requests. I have not =
had any difficulty downloading any zipped files eversince.
This is how it works:

(if for example you want to download a utility ('dbmaint.zip') for =
maintaining your MS Access databases, your typical request should be:)
=20
open ftp.bitcon.no
mime
cd /.11/winnt/demo/
get dbmaint.zip
quit
=20
The word 'mime' will tell the system that the multipart files are to be =
mime-encoded. Then the moment the last part is downloaded the email =
program will automatically join the parts into one email message with a =
zipped attachment. I'm sure it will work for you as I also use Win98, =
with Outlook Express as my email program. This mime thing also works =
when I use Netscape Communicator 4.x's email program. By the way it also =
works for .exe files.
Thanks.

I am seeing signs of life from this server again. Well, I'm getting
responses to requests dates over a month ago. I expect the backlog is
being cleared and maybe normal service will resume an a few days. I
suggest waiting until it appears in the daily statistics.

[snip answer, HTML and MIME]
The problem with MIME encoded mail is your posting here to ACCMAIL. It
includes the worthless MIME and HTML messages that this list doesn't
want. Not all of us use a MIME enabled mail program. Hence, we wish to
receive the files uuencoded.
Please see this document on how to turn off HTML and MIME encoding when
posting to this list.

If you know how to use a whois server by E-mail you can always chnge
the whois request to specify a specific whois server.
American Registry for Internet Numbers.
whois.arin.net
European Registry for Internet Numbers.
whois.ripe.net
Asian/Pacific Registry for Internet Numbers.
whois.apnic.net
US Defense Network Registry for Internet Numbers.
whois -h nic.ddn.mil
Internic Registry for Internet Numbers.
whois.internic.net
Domains in Switzerland
whois.nic.ch
The way you specifiy a different whois server, is to add the specific
server before the search. For example, if I normally use my Netcom
whois, I type "whois someplace.com"
If I want to use the arin whois server, I would type "whois -h
whois.arin.net someplace.com"
Another idea is to use the Switch whois gateway in Switzerland by
E-mail methods:
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.nic.ch
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.ripe.
net
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.inter
nic.net
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.arin.
net
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.apnic
.net
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.nic.gov
send
http://www.switch.ch/cgi-bin/info/whois?Query=XXX.XXX&Server=whois.nic.mil
Replace XXX.XXX with the domain of interest.
See section =6= in Bob Appleton's GEIT4U.TXT file.
send a blank message TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The Arin whois web search page is at: http://arin.net/whois/arinwhois.html
You could try this with a Getweb or www4mail server or... (the page
uses a method=POST action).

Excerpt from the information file:
ILIAD is an electronic information assistant that retrieves and
processes information from the Internet. It was initially designed to
provide Internet resources for elementary and secondary teachers with
limited computer resources. The e-mail search tool provides equity based
Internet access to schools who do not have high-end equipment or
connections.
Automatic offline Web searching is also useful to users who want to
decrease
the time required to sift through traditional Web search results.
A welcome and unanticipated user group has turned out to be the blind and
low vision community which seems to prefer using predominately text-based
electronic mail search tools over graphical Web browsers.
