Hi!
Ap> Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 16:27:45 +0300
Ap> From: Lena from Kiev
Ap> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Ap> For info how to subscribe to a Russian-language ACCMAIL mailing list
Ap> you can send any letter to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
There are something interesting for me? (Note: I plan to unsubscribe
from this list immediately after problems will be solved).
>> - wrong send of big .tar.gz archives (first part in multipart send losted -
>> I can't download LZO and UCL libraries);
Ap> I'm not sure, but may be XUUENCODE command will help.
Unfortunately, this not helps.
>> - wrong send of .RAR archives as text;
Ap> Use XUUENCODE command.
Yes, this helps, but requires additional works from me.
>> - for _some_ links GET request applies transliteration (cyrillic characters
>> replaced by phonetic-equal latinic characters);
Ap> Use <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -
Ap> with newer version of www4mail software.
All of them (kabissa, trieste, belanet, ernestotropez, collaborium)
works same in sense of described troubles.
>> - charset of page is not mentioned in header;
Ap> Same.
What "same"? No one of them point charest in header (although sometime
mention charset of page in message text).
>> - text files (requested without GET) sended not as binary attachemnet (this
>> forces injured recoding, because text attachments are recoded);
Ap> Recoded by your mail client?
Yes. It converts from any charset to x-cp866. If charset not mentioned,
then it assumes koi8-r. Consequently, if I forget to mention "xcharset
koi8-r" in request or site not supports this charset, then I should apply
two extra recodings (866->koi8, xxx->866, where xxx - is an original
charset, usually win1251) to make text readable.
Ap> Use XUUENCODE command.
Extra work. :( And I not always know when www4mail decises to sent some
_file_ (for example, .RAR archive) as _text_ attachment.
>> - many requests silinetly losted without any notification (and I should keep
>> explicit log of sended requests and mark those, which are completed);
Ap> My mail client keeps copies of sent letters. When I receive a reply,
Ap> I move the copy to "replied" folder or delete it.
Extra work. And for www4mail request I don't keep _letters_ copy -
anyway in each letter can't be mentioned more than 5 URLs.
>> - I have link, which mentioned as "forbidden", although other links in same
>> directory works (probably because in name present three letters "sex").
Ap> Different www4mail servers have different lists of forbidden words.
This is not word! This is part of name (sexec105.rar - archive with
Small Executor program).
Ap> And there are web-mail servers of other types.
For example? Which one you advice to download files/archives by http?
>> - I have some links, which always silently ignored;
Ap> Try all six www4mail servers
Tested. Try this yourself:
ftp://ftp3.ipswitch.com/pub/msdos/valet.zip
http://home.t-online.de/home/K_meinhard/tools/4d24h13.zip
Ap> and other web-mail servers.
Ap> If it doesn't help then may be your ISP uses spam filter or virus filter.
No - it reports when deletes attached virus.
Ap> In such cases I use nym.alias.net remailer which encrypts incoming mail
Ap> before forwarding it to me. Encrypted letters are not recognized by
Ap> spam or virus filters.
