Is the concern the computation or the transmission time? Even if you have to fragment packets I would expect transmission time to be well fast enough that computation is the major issue? [AS] This is just cumulative. Adding a second multicast packet increases the transmission time by a few 10s of milliseconds depending on the number of hops. You are right that if we use asymmetric crypto then this contribution is still smaller than the crypto computation time.
