in upgrading from 0.8.2 to 0.9.0-SNAPSHOT, i see that the mechanism for handling authentication exceptions has changed. specifically, an authentication event is now required. what is the justification for requiring an event rather than making it optional?

one of my providers throws a couple custom authentication exceptions, and now i'm forced to put in dummy exception mappings so that ProviderManager can assert that the event is non-null, even tho i'm not using it.
