Hi folks! I am in exact the same situation after updating to the latest Ubuntu release 10.04.
Before that with 9.04 and 9.10 the mentioned work arounds worked fine. see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes Until now, I did not tried to change the BIOS. (Can anyone be so kind and point me to an howto?, But I am not sure, if it is a good idea to make a change there to fix a ubuntu bug) I have the Aspire 5810T. Best Regards mt. Am Montag, 28.
