Comment: The screen never shows anything and the backlight never comes on. I've looked closely to see if there is an image but no back light, but there is no image. What do you mean by VGA mode? I've tried booting with init=/bin/bash on the kernel command line and then running "echo -n 3 > /proc/acpi/sleep" and I get the same crash.
