Summary: Fan does not run on Compaq armada 1700
Kernel Version: All 2.6 I've seen so far, check links for more info
            Status: NEW
          Severity: blocking
             Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
         Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.16 and older
Distribution: Debian unstable
Hardware Environment: Compaq armada 1700 laptop
Software Environment: Debian
Problem Description: The fan of the compaq armada 1700 does not turn on, causing
the laptop to overheat and shut down when the cpu temp reaches 95 degrees C

Steps to reproduce: Turn on laptop, do some cpu intensive stuff. The laptop will
shutdown after a few minutes. Debian does this shutdown cleanly. If I restart
the laptop while it's still hot, the fan will start to run as soon as the
computer has resetted and stops as soon as the kernel loads the acpi stuff.

A patch for older 2.6 kernels is already available:
