He is of the opinion that the only way to fix this properly is to get Dell to release BIOS updates. Introducing some kind of ACPI <---> Video link in the kernel (to enable DPMS after lid-open event) is not practical, and it is also asking for trouble if we mess with DPMS registers behind X's back.
