re: the patch in comment #8 adding acpi_machine_reset()
it is missing credit to the original author, and has removed
the x86_64 support, so it can not be applied.

re: the patch in comment #23 exiting acpi mode on reset
it is also i386 specific, will not build for CONFIG_ACPI=n
and I don't understand why it works.
