Most recent kernel where this bug did *NOT* occur: 2.6.20-rc1
Distribution: Debian 4.0 (Etch)
Hardware Environment: Clevo D4J D410J notebook

I have the same experience, the following command works with different speed on
different kernel versions:

On 2.6.20-rc1:
$ time cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature 
temperature:             51 C

real    0m0.156s
user    0m0.004s
sys     0m0.000s

On 2.6.21-rc2:
$ time cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature 
temperature:             52 C

real    0m1.020s
user    0m0.000s
sys     0m0.000s

On 2.6.21-rc2 sometimes the execution of this command takes a lot more time,
for example 19.879s (!).

The problem still exists in 2.6.22-rc4 (1.006sec).
