Hi, I had this problem on a desktop with "Asus P5B-E Plus" motherboard and E6600 Intel processor. It seems to be cured when I "enabled" in the lastest bios (v.05xx) the ACPI 2.0 option. The screen flashs at the point where it stopped before but the UBUNTU logo is redisplayed again and it ends correctly. May be it could help.
