yap,
kernel-2.6.23-0.195.rc7.git3.fc8 , backlight works,
and
kernel-2.6.23-0.196.rc7.git4.fc8 don't.

Now I am trying bisect patch-2.6.23-rc7-git3.bz2 to patch-2.6.23-rc7-git4.bz2

BTW:
on rpm for 2.6.23.9 I found this patch which conflicts with reversion of
acpi patch-2.6.23-rc7.git3-git4.bz2

# fix cpuidle regressions

#ApplyPatch linux-2.6-acpi-cpuidle-2-fix-HP-nx6125-regression.patch
cpuidle: fix HP nx6125 regression
