I agree that we should revert the patch
a21101c46ca5b4320e31408853cdcbf7cb1ce4ed and let X set the DOS value when it's
started.
But we'd better find a proper place in sys as the proc I/F is deprecated.

Another Question:
should we keep the vidou_output class sys I/F? It invokes ACPI methods, e.g.
_DSS, _DCS, to switch the display, which is known to work on none laptops.

If we want to keep this I/F, I suggest to add an attribute for video_output
class, which is used to set different mode for display switching.
