I just had a thought: It seems that the ACPI subsystem is flooded with
interrupts.  Couldn't be the interrupts deactivated and the battery system
switch to a polling model (maybe monitoring the interrupt frequency from time
to time). Not sure this is possible, but I would rather loose the multimedia
buttons, than my akku reporting.
