If anybody is still reading this, my suspend problem (comment #180) seemed to
be solved when I switched to the ati driver in Xorg.conf.

Nowadays (ati driver 6.9.0.1, kernel 2.25) I just let the X server figure out
which driver to use. The laptop suspends works fine, and the power drain is
minimal (300 mW). I assume that all problems related to this bug have, finally,
been fixed.
