They designed it (and its BIOS) in such a way that it is unsafe for any OS to make use of the SMBus. There's nothing we (Linux developers) can do about that. But anyway, I'm not sure why you insist on using the SMBus on this laptop. ACPI is supposed to handle the thermal management automatically so you shouldn't have to care.
