Summary: cpufreq does not work for Intel Celeron 550 without a
patch
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
KernelVersion: 2.6.28-rc7
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P1
Component: Power-Processor
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Latest working kernel version: -
Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.22
Distribution: OpenSUSE 10.3
Hardware Environment: Toshiba Satellite L300-11E Laptop; CPU Intel Celeron 550
@ 2GHz
Software Environment:
Problem Description: Cpufreq does not work even being loaded by hands.
But after I applied a patch from the address
'http://ecarux.de/files/misc/cpufreq-celeron-2.6.24.patch' (I failed to
establish the name of its author) that just adds a line to
'arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/p4-clockmod.c', cpufreq seems to work perfectly
after loading this module.
Steps to reproduce: Just boot the computer and look into the directory
'/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0'. There is no 'cpufreq' subdir in it. Attempts to
load any of modules from 'arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq' fails ('No such device')
except 'speedstep-lib' which produces nothing.
