           Summary: ASUS MV51R brightness control
           Product: ACPI
           Version: 2.5
     KernelVersion: 2.6.29-rc1
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Linux
              Tree: Mainline
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P1
         Component: Power-Video
        AssignedTo: acpi_power-vi...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
        ReportedBy: jonathan.d...@gmail.com

Latest working kernel version: 2.6.27
Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.28
Distribution: Debian unstable / experimental
Hardware Environment: Asus M51VR Laptop
Software Environment: Debian unstable with xorg 7.4 / server 1.5 / gnome /
asus_laptop acpi module

Problem Description:

When the light sensor is switched off and the brightness is controled manually
(special keyboard keys), the brightness level returns automatically to the
initial value. I'm not sure if this is an acpi issue or a userspace software
that is automatically chaging the screen brightness. This is verrry annoying.

Please let me know if you need more information (Additional software version /
log or debug output).

Regards,
Jonathan Dray

Steps to reproduce:

1. swith the light sensor to off and
2. set the brightness level with the appropriate keys.
3. wait a few minutes
