So far, I think the problem is that gpm uses
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness instead of actual_brightness, thus
it shows incorrect brightness levels when backlight is changed via hotkeys...
right?

I checked the gpm source code, and couldn't find anything useful.
