Here's /var/log/messages instead, which means the boot messages are missing. The system switches from "sort of working" to "non-working" at ~21:59:26 in that log. "Sort of working" meaning reading it takes only 0.1 seconds on average, which is still a problem, but not as much of one. I don't really care about how long reading these files take. It can take a second, or a minute.
