The Screenshot of hanging kernel 2.6.30,
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27955524/DSC09842.JPG, shows that this is a SATA
error.
Johan, please make sure this is the screenshot you got when system hangs.
please attach the lspci -x output.
BTW, does setting CONFIG_SATA_VIA instead of CONFIG_PATA_VIA help?
